Back to the Center (rewrite)

Lately, trying to write my story has felt like

flailing in the dark

or

grasping at butterflies eluding my fingers.

Those are two very different metaphors, yet they both paint accurate pictures.

Lately I’ve been asking myself, what is the center of my story? What is it that holds it all together, that makes the story—what I knew at the birth of my vision, at the first whispers of my inspiration? And it all comes back to this character.

V.

V. is the center of it all. She is my protagonist. Maybe I should stop all that peripheral writing for a little while, and just focus on her. Write about her introduction into the story, the influence and feel of her presence. The scenes where she watches magic happen. The scenes where she makes magic happen. She makes the story. And I make her.
